Participation and Timing

Participation in the Pine Trail Run is open to runners twelve years of age and older. The 5K race will have a 100 runner limit and the 8.6 mile race will have a 150 runner limit. Register to race now!

The race will start in waves to allow runners to maneuver into positions prior to start of the single track trail. Each wave will have its own start “gun” time, with the first wave starting at 7:30AM. Runners in the 8.6 mile race must complete the course in 3.5 hours.

Aid stations will be located near mid-course and at the finish. Portable restrooms will be located at the finish line and parking area. A restroom will also be available at the starting line.

No pets are allowed on the race course. Music is allowed but volume must be low enough to allow a passing request from another runner to be heard.

Getting to the Start Line

The free parking area is located off of Hwy 260 about a half mile south of the Pine trailhead (.1 mile north of mile marker 266 - look for the event signs).

Runners will be bused to the starting area near the Pine Canyon trail (8.6 mile race) or the Pine trailhead (5K race). There is a mandatory pre-race brief near the buses at 6:45AM. Buses will begin loading at the parking area at 7:00AM and depart for the starting area immediately after loading.

All runners are required to be transported to the starting area from the parking area via bus. Each bus full of runners will be a starting wave. Each runner’s bib number will be recorded when they enter their starting corral to ensure accurate starting times.

There will be a gear drop at the starting line (use your swag bag; it will have a bib tag attached). 8.6 mile race gear drop bags will be transported to the finish area.

Buses will also be available for family & friends from the parking area to the Pine trailhead after the start of the race and back to the parking area for everyone. Only service animals will be allowed on the buses.

A burrito breakfast will be provided to all registered runners at the Pine Trailhead by the Mountain Village Foundation, a charitable 501(c)3 corporation.

Parking will not be allowed at the Pine trailhead as the space is needed for bus turnaround.

Camping

Free camping is available in the Tonto National Forest near the parking area.

The turnoff to the parking area is to the west about 1/10 of a mile north of Hwy 260 mile post 266. It is not marked, so look for the dirt road. You are in the right area if you see a water bladder after crossing a cattle guard. Follow any of the dirt roads leaving the large open parking area to locate a camping spot.

Note that this is not an established campground. Port-a-potties and a hand wash station will be placed in the parking area Friday afternoon for your use. Be sure to check the Pine-Strawberry Fire Department for fire restrictions prior to your arrival.
